     Kendriya Vidyalaya Surda

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Surda, which was opened in 1978 as a project school, has been the prime gem in the crown of the Sangathan. Shut down in 1999 due to indispensable reasons it was reopened on 1st April 2003 in civil sector due to sheer public demand. Now it is a 2-sectioned school running all the three streams Science, Arts and Commerce from class I to XII.

The Kendriya Vidyalayas are run by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an autonomous body formed by the Ministry of Education, (H.R.D.) Govt. of India, New Delhi, as a result of the recommendation of the Second Pay Commission. They primarily cater to the educational needs of the children of Central Govt. Employees including Defence Personal and floating population liable to frequent transfers through out the country. Needless to say, therefore, they have common syllabus and are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

Every school, hence is a ‘Miniature India ’ in itself and ties to inculcate in its students feelings of patriotism, brotherhood and national integration.

Place chosen for establishing Kendriya Vidyalayas are those having concentration of Defence Personnel and other transferable Central Govt. Employees For admission the Vidyalaya give priority to the children of transferable Defence Personnel, Central Govt. Employees and personnel of All India Service, but other floating population desirous of having such common pattern of education are also eligible for admission to the remaining seats. The instruction is imparted through the media of Hindi and English in these Vidyalaya, the ultimate object being to enable pupils to achieve a reasonable measure of proficiency in both the languages. The Vidyalayas prepare pupils for All India Secondary School Examination and Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

The Vidyalayas are being developed as Quality Vidyalayas with some of the useful features of popular residential Vidyalaya; without making the schooling very expensive. The quality of teaching is kept reasonably high by an appropriate teacher-pupil ratio and provision of a suitable proportion of teachers with high qualifications.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya aims at having not only a common syllabus but also a well prepared syllabus and good textbooks based on that syllabus. They are intended to be equipped with good libraries, good laboratories and variety of other useful co-curricular activities.

The Vidyalaya provides for the studies of Commerce, Humanities and Science and many of them are multi-purpose in character providing for diversified courses.

The Vidyalaya imparts Free Education upto Class VIII. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has already adopted the new pattern of School Education i.e. 10+2 pattern.
